I downloaded the free BMW / Porche dealership data for evaluation and noticed that in North America (US & Canada), over 55% of dealers are missing phone numbers & hours of operations.
Where do you get the phone numbers & hours of Ops from for established retailers such as car dealerships? Will the missing data get filled over time?
Hi @aflippo - thanks for the question. We source each of our products a little differently. For our Places product, we compile that information through the following methods:
Crawling open store locators on the web (ex. crawling a brand’s website that lists where all of its stores are)
Using publicly available APIs and crawling open web domains that provide updated locations for a specific category of POIs (ex. websites that list where all airports are)
Processing and modeling to infer additional attributes (ex. inferring what category a POI is)
Licensing third-party data to fill in the gaps
We’re updating our Places data on a monthly cadence, which allows for updates to be quickly released to our users. If you notice certain areas that could have better fill rates, certainly let us know, and we can look into further improving those columns.
Thanks for the reply. Yes, I would like to see established new car dealerships for big brands (BMW, Mercedes, Toyota, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Acura, Lexus, Infiniti, Jeep, Land Rover, Volvo, etc.) where most have been at the same location for over 20 years or more to have their phone numbers & hours of operations listed. I’m biased so I’m only looking for US & Canada availability. Appreciate it.
