Has anyone worked with data from social media, mainly twitter? How did you access that data?

The Twitter API, though there was talk of shutting that down a few years ago, I don’t know if they did that or not

I was working with a company called snaptrends and they were using the Twitter API to track illegal activity in less developed parts of the world.

I’ve been accessing twitter data using their free API. You can search tweets from up to a week ago. I’m still perfecting working around the standard rate limits, which is a pain.

If you use R then rtweet is the package - Collecting Twitter Data • rtweet Also https://tags.hawksey.info/ which is a Google Sheet that collects every hour. Rate limits still an issue though
