Does anybody know how to get USA weather data per census block group or maybe bigger granule?

Does anybody know how to get USA weather data per census block group or maybe bigger granule?

Hi @Angel_Langdon, here is a link with zipcode and GIS weather data

https://www.climate.gov/maps-data

If I were doing it, I would map the weather data then do a CBG boundary overlay to see the pattern.

Unless zipcode is enough, in which case use that haha

Thank you very much @Jack_Lindsay_Kraken1 we will give it a try!

@Angel_Langdon I created this for the consortium a while back and it may serve your purposes https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1wZXBrqw9uE2JorzQThKpktO_l1XGlzLT

I think the link is in the catalog too (other datasets)

@Jude_Bayham_Colorado_State_U This looks really useful for me, thanks for posting - I definitely missed it in the catalog. Are you planning to process a “cbg_2018” dataset by any chance or would I need to use your code to generate that?

@Kate_Schertz_University_of_Chicago glad to hear it is useful. I can produce the 2018 cbg version. Check the google drive in about an hour.

Wow, thanks so much!

The data is uploading now. Spot check it an let me know if anything looks off. Also, a reminder that I used the cbg centroid intersected with the nearest gridmet cell. I think this is a fair approximation in urban areas with small cbgs, but less accurate in larger cbgs.

Sorry for the delay but was able to take a look, and it looks good to me. Method makes sense to me - I’m working in Chicago for now so should be fine but will keep in mind if I end up working with larger cbg. Thanks again!
